Annual DSP workshop 2009

Inauguration of the Workshop on Digital
Signal Processing was held on 14 th November by Principal Dr. Saramma
Varghese, 2009. Prof. Madhu Eravankara head of the dept. of
Chemistry was the chief guest. Dr. Rajesh M. V., Senior Lecturer, Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara,
Cochin, Kerala, India was the guest speaker. 80 students from nearby
colleges participated in the programme.
Dr. Achamma Kurian participated in student chapter
leadership programme conducted by SPIE at San diego, California , USA,
from 2-6 August 2009. Dr. Achamma Kurian receiveing SPIE OUTREACH GRANT 2009 award from SPIE
president Prof Maria J. Yzuel at the Convention

First Asian SPIE Chapter meeting

Dr.Achamma Kurian participated in the first Asian Student
chapter meeting conducted by SPIE Singapore chapter on 25-28 June 2008
at SMU auditorium, Singapore. 15 members from different
countries participated in the meeting. "Hands on Optics"were
demonstrated by Mr. Dirk Fabian,
Student Services
Coordinator, SPIE USA. Discussions were carried out on the problems of
students in selecting optics as their career. The chapter activities
were presented by each chapter member. The meeting
motivated all
the members and they took a decision to conduct such meetings in
future also.
ONAM CELEBRATION
On the 26th of August 2008 we organized a celebration of Kerala's cultural festival Onam. The program was aimed to entertain the students by various cultural activities and games. On that occasion, message was delivered by the different faculty members Dr Achamma Kurien (HOD),
Dr George Varghese, Prof. Thomas John, Prof. John Varghese.

Career Guidance & Personality
development
We organized a workshop on career
guidance and personality development 14 th August 2007. The programme was
conducted by Mr. A.P.Thomas who is the national trainer of Jaycees International. He motivated
the students to build up an attractive personality. The
workshop was inspired all the delegates.

TALK ON NANOTECHNOLOGY
On 15th July, 2007 we conducted our first programme, which was a talk on nanotechnology by Prof.
K.George
Varghese who is one of the prominent research workers in the
field of nanotechnology and he is currently working as a lecturer at St. Gregarious college,
Kottarakara, Kerala, India. All the Post Graduate students and the faculty members of the Dept. of physics attended the talk.
The programme was organized as result of the thought aroused in the meeting of SPIE to conduct a series of seminars to update the knowledge of our students in the various branches of physics. As a result of this, the talk on nanotechnology was our first attempt and it was much effective and highly informative. All the delegates who attended the programme gave an active participation.
The programme gave much appreciation for our SPIE student chapter. These appreciations ignited a new light in the minds of each SPIE member and today everyone is dedicated in the SPIE mission.

Seminar on Digital signal Processing

A seminar on Digital
Signal Processing was held on 22nd November, 2007 by Dr. Rajesh M. V.,
who is a Senior Lecturer at Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara,
Cochin, Kerala, India. The seminar helped the students in
understanding the role of Digital Signal Processing in Science &
Technology. The seminar covered the fundamentals of Digital Signal
Processing as well as the applications of Digital Signal Processing.
All the Post Graduate students and the faculty members of the Dept. of
physics attended the talk.

Optics To School

Children from nearby schools have the opportunity
to participate in lecturer com demonstration in frontier area of
physics. The children can do themselves basic experiments in physics
and experience the thrill of physics. In another section models are
arranged where the working principles are explained to the
students

Extra curricular activities of the chapter
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2008
The
World Environment Day slogan for 2008 is Kick the Habit! Towards a Low
Carbon Economy. The World Environment Day will highlight resources and
initiatives that promote low carbon economies and life-styles, such as
improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest
conservation and eco-friendly consumption. Recognising that climate
change is becoming the defining issue of our era, spie members
celebrated world Environment Day by planting trees in the campus to
make it ecofriendly. They are planning to make a ASOKA Vanam in the
campus.
ONAM CELEBRATION
