CATHOLICATE COLLEGE RECEIVED SPIE OUT
REACH GRANT 2009 AWARD FOR PROMOTING OPTICS AND PHOTONICS AMONG
SCHOOL CHILDREN
Inauguration of Student Chapter

The inauguration of Catholicate College SPIE student chapter was
conducted on 14th August, 2007. The function started at 10am with a prayer song by our SPIE member Miss. Seetha Lekshmi. Many reputed and respected personalities were on the dice.
The coordinator of the programme Prof. George Varghese, welcomed all the personalities to the inaugural session .
The presidential address was given by Dr. Achamma Kurian who is the
head of the physics department and staff advisor of SPIE
chapter .The new student chapter was inaugurated by Rev .Fr .K .V. Paul, principal of St. Stephens college,
Pathanapuram,
India. After his inaugural address, Catholicate college SPIE student chapter was inaugurated
by lighting the lamp. Our principal Dr. Saramma Varghese gave the keynote address.
The felicitation were given by Prof. John Kurien, the Bursar of the college and also the Head
Of the Department of the English
and Prof. K.C.Zechariah, Prof. department of Physics at St. Thomas College, Kozhencherry .The powerful words of these personalities trigged our minds. The inaugural session was concluded by the Vote of Thanks given by Mr. Justin Jose, who is the president of Catholicate College SPIE student chapter.
Final year BSc student, Lekshmi M, selected to attend the annual conference of SPIE
was felicitated during the inaugural session. The students, the faculty members and the HOD of various departments of the college attended the function. Soon after the inaugural session, refreshment was given to all.

is an international society for optical engineering
established in 1955. This is a non profit organization DEDICATED TO
ADVANCE OPTICS & PHOTONICS all around the globe. Its present

publishing, speaking, and learning opportunities on emerging
technologies.
In support of students, the Society contributes more than $1M
annually in scholarships, grants, and financial support. With 98
Student Chapters around the world, SPIE is expanding opportunities
for students to develop professional skills and utilize career
opportunities, supporting the next generation of scientists and
engineers.
Keeping researchers informed, SPIE publishes six scholarly
journals and a variety of print media publications. The SPIE
Digital Library also publishes the latest research-close to 20,000
proceedings papers each year.
Membership includes a Fellows Program, with close to 500
individual Society Fellows inducted to date from a wide range of
technical disciplines and application areas. This recognition
program honors professional contributions of Members. An Award
Program also serves to recognize individuals throughout the
scientific community and to bring
their achievements to light.
SPIE continues to serve its core optics and photonics community
as an advocate as well as serving its broader scientific and
technical communities, and society at large.
The SPIE international office is located in Bellingham,
Washington and the SPIE Europe office is located in Cardiff,
Wales.
